President Trump pledges peaceful transition of power.
In proceedings that were interrupted by demonstrators overrunning the Capitol security, the joint session of Congress shortly before 4 a.m. on Thursday certified the Electoral College vote for Joe Biden as America’s next president.
Vice President Mike Pence read the final Electoral College tally, 306 votes for Biden and Harris and 232 for Trump and Pence. His announcement followed an unsuccessful attempt by some legislators to challenge results from certain contested states.
The incoming president will be sworn in at noon on January 20 in accordance with the nation’s laws.
Shortly after the announcement, President Trump committed himself to an “orderly transition” of power on that date.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump and Vice President Pence as they prepare for the transition of the government to a new administration.
- For incoming president Joe Biden and vice president Kamala Harris to be gracious as they assume their new offices.
- That God would heal the divisions in our nation.
